Ratoola holds a PhD in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She teaches urban transport policy, planning and practice; urban planning theory and practice, planning and the Indian city, urban studio and research design at the School of Habitat Studies, TISS. Previously, she has worked with organisations such as TERI and Human Rights Law Network, focusing on resettlement and rehabilitation projects associated with large urban infrastructure developments. Her research interests include planning and its intersections with urban informality, processes and impacts of peri-urbanisation, inclusion and exclusion of groups within and through plans and policies.
